Culturally competent and LGBT affirming practice standards are relatively recent additions to both the areas of clinical practice and research.
It has just been in the last few years that we've finally seen the plethora of research and historical information related to the lived lives of LGBT persons.
The Zebra Coalition® is a network of organizations which provide services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBT+) ages 13 – 24. The Coalition assists young people facing homelessness; bullying; physical, sexual and drug abuse; and isolation from their families with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability.

Several years ago, we set out to create a Knowledge Community (KC) that addresses the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people across their lifespan. As educators, researchers, and practitioners, information and resources were minimal and lacked critical cultural competencies and ignored intersecting identities.
The ability to access community and supportive resources is critical in meeting the needs of any client. The lack of national resources can greatly influence local organizations.
The events over a lifetime for LGBT persons become more complicated due to the myths, misinformation, homophobia, and heterosexism.

This site is dedicated to the champions working to enhance the well-being of every sexual and gender minority regardless of their "initial under the umbrella." Our work must be about ending discrimination and addressing the needs of our clients to ensure their health and safety and access to the promises afforded to every global citizen.
